Man jailed in shooting near Wade A La Porte
38-year-old Christopher Haynes of La Porte was jailed without bond in Harris County on aggravated assault charges after a shooting on Golden Drive near Wade Road. A woman was shot in the shoulder as Haynes forced entry into his ex-girlfriend’s home. her son intervened before another shot was fired.

Gander Pride Marked By Robert E Lee High Marker Dedication
Hundreds of current and former Robert E Lee High School students gathered on the front lawn Saturday for the Texas Historical Marker dedication. The marker, tied to the 1928 main building and 1937 wings, places the school on the state historic places register and as a designated statewide landmark. The event featured remarks by Reyes, class of 1997, and a procession including trustees, city and state officials, and a keynote address by Don Coffey of the Harris County Historical Society.

Lee College regent candidates debate school issues
Five candidates vie for three general seats on the Lee College board as election day May 11 nears with early voting starting Monday. Challengers Walter Stricklin and Bill Oaks join current members Pete Alfaro Keith Coburn and Susan Moore-Fontenot on the slate. Regents serve six years and elections occur for one third of seats every two years.

Chambers County Youth Project Show Opens at White Park
The Chambers County Youth Project Show began with a horse show on Saturday and continues after May 14. Project organizer Jim Silva notes the event, a Chambers County tradition since 1956, attracts about 1,500 entries in exhibit hall competitions and 400 in outdoor animal shows at White Park, south of I 10 on Highway 61. Participants range from preschoolers to high schoolers across Chambers County including homeschooled youth, with categories in industrial arts foods science art photography horticulture history and family and consumer science.
