Baytown officer faces second trial over 2008 arrest
Testimony began Monday in the second trial for Baytown police officer Jon Fitzgerald charged with official oppression after the 2008 arrest of Ryan Sanders. The case stems from an Internal Affairs investigation into a pursuit during which Sanders allegedly crashed his motorcycle and was pinned by officers. Witnesses described a confrontation at an apartment complex where Fitzgerald allegedly struck the suspect’s head against a curb. Fitzgerald contests that he pulled Sanders down to stop flight.
