Baytown teen guilty of capital murder in donut shop killing
Jarrett Delaine Driver, 17, was found guilty by a jury of four men and eight women for the August 13, 2005 stabbing death of Dina's Donuts owner Bunrith In during a robbery. He received a life sentence with 40 years before parole eligibility, as the death penalty was not allowed due to his age. Nimol In, In's daughter, delivered a victim impact statement, while Driver showed limited emotion.

Bay Area Relay For Life Opens With Remembrance Ceremony
The No 1 Texas Relay For Life kicks off at Stallworth Stadium with a 5 p.m. Brass Quintet start and a 6 p.m. opening ceremony featuring a butterfly release honoring Nancy Wallace Riis and Martha Jane Huddle who died earlier this year. Survivors walk at 6 30 p.m. and luminaries mark the night at 9 p.m. with music by Bayou Big Band Lacy Miller and Rick Thomas followed by closing ceremonies at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Petition drive gathers 400 signatures over rezoning plans
At the Chambers County Annex residents from eight West Chambers neighborhoods packed the building to sign a petition for Goose Creek ISD urging rejection of two outsider generated rezoning maps labeled Option X and Option Z. The hypothetical plans would shift Goose Creek high school boundaries to Lee High while trying to balance economic disadvantage among Sterling, Goose Creek, and Lee High. By 5 15 p m more than 400 names were collected as residents voiced disappointment and concern before signups ended.

Baytown weighs 11.5 million aquatics plan and park projects
City Council floated around eleven point five million dollars Thursday for a multi facility aquatics package including a large water park, neighborhood pool and spray parks. The plan relies on six million already designated by the Municipal Development District and a forthcoming November bond to cover the rest. Roseland Spray Park reopened after repairs to a broken water pipe at 100 Roseland Drive.
