Greater Baytown chamber to announce contest winners at buffet
The Greater Bay: town Chamber of Commerce membership drive results will be announced at a Friday buffet supper planned for 5730 p.m. at the Holiday Inn. Norman Hargrave, chairman, said 175 tickets have been sold at 1.50 each. Dave Moore, chamber manager, reported 2,728 luncheons since Sept. 13 and 1,441 in attendance for April. The Friday program, directed by the highway committee chaired by Fred Hartman, will cover extending Bayway Drive to Spur 201 near the refinery, a route the chamber supports.

McClelland Gets 10 Years for Estate Conversion
In Austin AP report former Houston Probate Judge Cleny McClelland received a 10 year prison term after a nine jurors and three women found him guilty of felony conversion. The verdict followed a three hour jury deliberation in State District Judge Mace Thurman's court. He converted 32,500 from the estate of Gordon Von Strots.

Barbers Hill Supt Underwood resigns after 19 years
Barbers Hill school board accepted the resignation of Superintendent W C Underwood after 19 years in district service including 10 years as superintendent. He will take three weeks vacation in July and plans to step down to allow a new leader to push a building program. He and his wife and daughter live in the area and their son attends the University of Texas. Mrs Underwood has taught 18 years at Barbers Hill. He previously served in the Navy as a lieutenant and taught at Rochelle Doole and Paint Rock before joining Barbers Hill in 1945.

Baytown Area Banks See Deposit Gains in April Calls
Baytown three banks posted higher deposits in their April 13 calls alongside Crosby and Highlands banks. Total deposits for the five banks rose to 46,248,333.25 from 40,052,415.97 in March 1962, with Baytown trio climbing from 33,413,? to 29,451,435.43. Citizens National grew from 20,613,361.45 to 24,714,706.6, nearly 20 percent, and First National rose from 6,499,258.04 to 7,948,685.78. Other nearby banks also show gains. La Porte State Bank and Channelview State Bank increased as well.
