Goose Creek tightens coaching rules for teachers

Goose Creek school board on Monday night approved a rule preventing teachers who coach from resigning coaching while keeping their teaching jobs. Athletic director Al Richard noted most coaches teach health and physical education, so resigning from coaching leaves the district short of qualified staff. He cited Lee High School where a coach’s resignation tied up a health position for two years. In four years, eight high school coaches have resigned from coaching but stayed in teaching roles. Texas law requires high school coaches to work full time for the district.
