Cedar Bayou Pioneers and a Gator in the Yard Chronicle
Jim Nelson, a Bayou area sports goods shop owner and local historian, recorded stories of Cedar Bayou settlers the Shepherd and Wright families. The Shepherds moved from Jamaica in 1838, acquired land, built homes, endured a hurricane loss, and produced a large family with ties to local business. Thomas Wright Sr. arrived circa 1870 from England, built a brickyard, owned lands around Cedar Bayou, and linked to the Shepherds through marriage. Wanda Orton of The Sun and a Baytown Sun reader inquiry note closes the piece.
