Reports of a Sunday night fire at Humble Oil and Refining Co Baytown refinery were unfounded say company officials. Low clouds made flare reflections appear larger than real, a spokesman noted, later comparing to a similar incident across the channel. Also, an oil painting demonstration by Mrs C T Shewell at Harris County Library Wooster Branch 2 to 4 pm Tuesday. County officials including Commissioner Jamie Bray invited. Cedar Bayou 4 H Club will not meet Tuesday. next meeting in May.

Baytown Kiwanis Club marks its 25th anniversary with a 7 p.m. banquet on Thursday April 22 at the Ramda Tower Center. The program includes a 20 minute excerpt from Meredith Willson's The Music Man sung by 17 Ross Sterling High School students, directed by Xina Stone. Region 28 lieutenant governor Herbert V. Herbert will offer predictions for the next 29 years. first president L. A. Wilkie will be recognized. The club, famed for its apple sale since 1949, supports Boy and Girl Scouts, dental care, scholarships, and underprivileged children. Civil Defense Director J Fletcher Hickerson says high tides will continue in Baytown Monday though low areas unlikely to flood. Tides as high as 3.5 feet with 3.8 feet bringing water into some Brownwood homes. Water covered Bayshore Drive, Schreck and Brownwood Drive Friday night. Lynchburg Ferry saw 10 inches of water at east entrance. ferry closes at 12 inches. Flood gates at Mapleton worked, Bayshore and end of Bayshore Drive gates failed due to water over the loads.
