The Anahuac Area Chamber of Commerce will host a four-man scramble golf tournament Saturday at Chambers County Golf Course. The annual fundraiser supports community projects with prizes for first to third place. Baytown Lee High School softball team REL clinched a playoff berth with a 10-0 run-rule victory over Channelview. Senior Kayla Shepherd threw a one-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts and a three-run double. REL moves to 7-6 in District 21-5A, two games ahead of Langston Antascocita for fourth.
Lee Ganders beat Port Arthur Memorial 8 3 as Kyle Bieschke and Michael Mahan combined for solid pitching. Bieschke went 2 4 with two runs and Mahan 2 3 with three runs as Ganders improve to 13 14 on the year and 5 6 in district. Coach Hillin says the win keeps them in the hunt with the final week ahead.
Rockets beat Suns 120 117 to secure the No. 4 seed and open the playoffs against Utah. Tracy McGrady tallied 39 points 11 rebounds and nine assists, Yao Ming added 34 points and nine boards, Suns stars Amare Stoudemire 30 and Shawn Marion 27 fought hard.
