The Discipline Steering Committee discussed a districtwide discipline management program called a pyramid of intervention. The 65 member panel includes campus principals and district leaders. Intervention teams at classroom, campus and district levels would act to address behavior before escalation.
Ken Fe Perry plans to slash property taxes by a third while expanding the business tax and raising cigarette taxes by one dollar per pack. The proposal would also use one billion dollars from the state budget surplus to fund the changes.
Legislators return to Austin to tackle a repeatedly blocked overhaul of Texas school funding after the Texas Supreme Court ruled the current system unconstitutional. The June 1 deadline adds pressure as Gov. Perry and the Tax Reform Commission push a plan, led by John Sharp, to cut property taxes, widen business tax reach, and reshape funding across 1,031 districts.
Baytown Youth Fair President Joey Enderli praised the new arena barn at the fairgrounds on North Main, saying Hurricane Rita ended the delay and the 200 by 150 foot structure will be ready for the youth fair starting May 15. Enderli noted the project had been discussed for 40 years.
The Louisiana High School Coaches Association dropped its all star games prompting the Bayou Bowl to stand as Louisiana’s sole all star football showcase. Lee High coach Dick Olin and LHSAA Commissioner Tommy Henry expect the Bayou Bowl to grow and solidify its status. The fourth Bayou Bowl pits Houston area all stars against Louisiana competitors on June 10 at Stallworth Stadium in Baytown.
