Chambers Group Protests HLPCO Water Use Plan
Chambers County officials heard a protest against Houston Lighting and Power Co. plan to draw water from the Houston Ship Channel via a canal to Cedar Bayou for cooling at the Cham bers County generating plant. Objectors cited potential pollution and sewage dumping into Trinity Bay, while officials sought broader study from HLPCO, the Texas Water Quality Board, and U.S. Steel. Separately, Smith Point residents urged steps to improve public boat launching facilities as the existing ramp periodically silts up and limits access for large boats.
