Peter Hope British Consul General to the Southwestern United States spoke at Lee College Monday defending Britains stance on trading with Cuba and other Communist nations. Speakers' Bureau For Lee College Loan Fund Set Up

A speakers bureau headed by O A Brown has been set up for the Lee College Community Loan Fund a town wide effort culminating with a public meeting on April 16 at Lee College auditorium Brown will speak Tuesday at the East Harris County Medical Association and has already presented to Baytown Optimist Elks Lodge Knights of Columbus Business and Professional Women's Club Civil Air Patrol Cadets Mater Dei Court of Catholic Daughters of America Baytown Senior Citizens and Bnai Brith. Letters asking for 5 to 10 minute programs have been sent to Baytown organizations to spread word about the loan fund program Brown urged outreach to inform the community about the fund.

MacArthur laid to rest in landmark New York ceremony

Thousands queued at the 7th Regiment Armory to pay respects to General Douglas MacArthur. Dignitaries including Adlai Stevenson and Robert Wagner attended as three-faith services preceded the public viewing. Humble Day barbecue tickets go on sale May 9

Humble Club directors will distribute tickets for the Humble Day barbecue on May 9 at the Humble Country Club Red Bluff Road. Members receive two free tickets with extra tickets at 50 cents until April 24 when prices rise to 1.50. Annuitants may join Humble Club for 2 per year and gain access to groups and dances and can mail for tickets or guest passes. Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang will entertain during the day with a Western themed schedule.

Allen Rice JR Architect Accepted by Harvard and Yale

Allen Rice JR, architect with the firm of James A Dav, has been accepted by Harvard and Yale graduate schools of design. He has not decided which to attend but will enroll next fall. Rice is a graduate of the University of Houston and a registered architect who has applied for AIA membership.

Texas Ranks Second In New Plant Location Growth

Gov. John Connally said Texas ranked second to New York last year in new plant locations and credited aggressive local leadership and pro business governance. He argued Texas should not use tax incentives to lure industry, while stressing strong government as a competitive edge. Cancer Fund Drive Starts Wednesday

A house to house cancer crusade kick off is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Holiday Inn for men and nation workers. Mrs Harlan Blackmon chairs the drive and announced plans for the coffee. Leaflets describing cancer warning signs are being sent to Baytown homes and banks cooperated in mailing. A record number of pamphlets on cancer problems were distributed in March. 1420 more Baytown students viewed cancer films in March. All middle and high school science classes will see films on cancer biology.
