The Art League of Houston will sponsor a studio tour from 2 to 6 p.m. on April 29 and 30. Demonstrations in painting, printmaking, sculpture and ceramics will be held in seven studios and at the Art League building.

The 57th Legislature schedules a general sales tax bill for Monday. Rep. John Allen of Tongview pushes HB803 to 2 percent on nearly all retail sales, awaiting debate after approval by the House Tax Committee. Allen argues the tax could solve the problem and urges the Senate to act quickly.
Mrs. Lena Mae Gordon of 7 Fleetwood Baytown won the grand prize in the Baytown Sun Citizens National Bank Euro Tour contest. She receives two 17 day trips mid June to Natland Denmark Switzerland Italy France and England aboard Sun Citizens Bank and KLM Royal Mail Airlines valued at 3000.60. Gordon also won a prior 100 merchandise prize from 8000 entries. The drawing occurred at Brinson Theatre during Gone With The Wind. Her plans will be announced in The Sun alongside other tour winners.
Harris County lawmakers back Channelview residents alleging vote irregularities that kept Channelview, Pasadena and nearby districts in the San Jacinto junior college district. A bill aimed at detaching Channelview from the district was scheduled for Monday, requiring 51 percent petition support amidst claims signatures were forged or duplicated.
Green Street will extend from North Pruett to Jones after a divided council committee report. Vandalism at the Harris County Sewage Disposal Plant serving Craipmont and Country Club Maks has caused about minor damage in the past month. The board of Harris County Water Control and Improvement District No. 9 asked the sheriff to investigate. Possible charges include criminal mischief and endangering public health by tampering with chlorine gas containers and plant machinery.
