The school board awarded the district’s first continuing contracts to teachers librarians and counselors with at least two years in the district. George Gentry said he planned to include secretaries but paused to allow policy changes. The board will consider renewing secretary contracts later.

Cecil Winfree nine year old son of Mr and Mrs Earnest Ben Winfree of Mont Belvieu recovered after three days in a Houston hospital following a copperhead bite to the back of his neck while playing near bushes. His mother reported an allergy to the anti venom but alternative care proved effective.
Frankie Hayes, a nine year old Dallas boy, returns to school after starting amino acid depletion therapy with L-Asparaginase. Once near death from leukemia, he has shown life and joy, though his mother and Dr. Hill caution it is not a cure.
Dr. Patricia Pearce, child psychiatrist and director of the Child Guidance Center of Houston, oversees a Baytown pilot at Anson Jones Elementary. She and Dr. Walter DeLange conduct group sessions with parents and teachers to address behavior, motivation, and learning issues. The project aims to expand services across Harris County.
Baytown voters? city government and the Chamber of Commerce lead a week long cleanliness campaign proclaimed by Mayor Seaborn Cravey. Fercey W. Hebel aged 72 of 3102 Ohio Baytown died at 10 p.m. Wednesday in a Galveston hospital after a 45 year Baytown residence. Retired from Humble Oil Baytown Refinery, WWI veteran, Goose Creek Masonic Lodge AFLAM No. 1192 member. Funeral Friday at 2:00 p.m. at St Mark's Methodist Church with Revs. Harry Holmes and Tom Holcomb. interment San Jacinto Memorial Park Cemetery. Earthman Funeral Home directing. Velma Rebecca Jenkins of Cleveland formerly Baytonian died in a one car crash Wednesday at 3 20 pm three miles northwest of Cleveland on FM Road 2025 in San Jacinto County. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Survived by husband the Rev Walter J W Jenks two daughters two sons two stepsons three brothers three sisters and ten grandchildren Services 2 pm Friday at Paul U Lee Chapel Baytown burial Cedar Crest Cemetery.
