Youthful Towboat Deckhand Falls to Death in Creek

C W Lee of Consolidated Western Steel says the first of nine immense tunnel tubes for the Baytown La Porte tunnel will ship by mid May. Sections, 34 feet 10 inches in diameter and 200 to 250 feet long, are welded from 1/2 inch steel plate and sealed with bulkheads and concrete joints. The project reuses former World War II shipyard facilities at Orange to assemble and launch the water tight tubes via the Intercoastal Canal to the site.
