Readers recount a hospital recovery with renewed color and spark in Mary Louise Robinson and others. The column recalls classmate reunions, social visits, library meetings, and family travels, detailing local people from Bayard to Cedar Falls and events around UNI's new Unidome and area social life.
Mr and Mrs George Anderson of Jefferson and Anna Lucht and Ronald of Coon Rapids visited Henry Schick and Iva Schick Sunday evening with cake and ice cream for Henry's September 14 birthday and Iva's September 18. Grandson Chad Clipperton was honored for his sixth birthday on September 11 at a turkey dinner hosted by Dean Clipperton and family.
The Stormer brothers Darwin Homer and Phillip return from a ten day trip to Portland Oregon visiting their brother Robert in McMinnville who had major surgery at a Veterans hospital. They also visited nephew Bobbie Stormer in Gladstone and Robert Bogati of Seattle helped with farm work. Christine Wilf returns to Boone for her second year as a recreational specialist student. Fred and Nance played in the Iowa Western Golf Association couples tournament at Lake Okoboji. Storm Lake trip saw Buena Vista defeat Westmar 40 to 17 with Kirby Gilson and Gary Fell seeing action for BU scholastic team. Protected kicker duties and injuries noted in second half.
Mr and Mrs Lee Carrick hosted a Saturday gathering on September 11 forLee and Teresa Carrick birthdays. Guests included Dorothy Theulin, Martha Morena, and Don Carrick with Teresa turning twelve. Several relatives visited later including Linda Halbur’s shower in Audubon and hospital visits in Des Moines and Perry.
Norma Laughery born August 22 and Kay Lyons born September 8 were honored at a birthday supper in the Aztec Lounge Coon Rapids. Attendees included Jim Laughlin Des Moines and several Laughery Lyons and local couples. Jane Russell Trio led singing Happy Birthday to the honorees.
Mr and Mrs Dwain Myers and Kathy hosted a postgame gathering after the Bayard Paten Chardan game Friday night. Guests included Mrs Bruce Parker of Panora and James Carstens of Bagley with the Tuel and Tuel families and Joni and Jim. Mrs Parker, the hosts’ daughter, was honored for her birthday celebrated that day.
Sandy Ramaekers and Rosie Miller, senior nursing students at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, stayed with Mr and Mrs Jim Ramaekers from Tuesday to Thursday while on a three week summer break. Sandy visited Syracuse and Buffalo last week and Chicago earlier this week before returning to study pediatrics.
Robert Bogatt of Mountlake Terrace Washington left Sunday after visiting his grandparents Hartey and Dillavou since July 20. He will enter the University of Washington in Seattle this fall. His mother is Judith Dillavou.
Mrs Frank Kinkennon hosted a supper Saturday to honor her husband for his September 12 birthday with guests the couple's daughter and Henry Pinkney family members from Des Moines. A Sunday visit by Donald Kinkennon and family extended birthday wishes. A separate note covers Teresa Carrick's twelfth birthday slumber party hosted by Don and Teresa Carrick with many friends. Additionally, Cretsingers traveled to Leadville for Jacque Cretsinger's Denver wedding to Wayne Tesar, with sixty guests at the Presbyterian Church.
Dean L Bottsen serves as pastor with Lutheran Family Service Sunday on September 19 including Sunday school at 9 a.m. and worship at 10 a.m. An LWMS fall rally is planned September 22 at Immanuel in Lidderdale and a fall stewardship meeting is set September 23 at Peace in Glidden.
Ascension Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids lists Sunday School at 9 15 a.m and worship at 10 30 a.m Pastor Keith Piller announced Ruth circle meets Tuesday September 21 at 1 30 p.m.
Labor Day events span Bayard area with library hours listed and multiple gatherings. Ed Kinnick and guests from Coon Rapids joined Cindy Franzeen's birthday celebration on September 7 with ice cream and cake. Chad marked his fourth birthday at a family supper on September 13. Nearby, Donna's Cafe in Dedham hosted Sidney Phelps' dinner guests Howard Holt and family. Florence Jones and Hazle Holiday traveled to Yutan Nebraska for Labor Day, reuniting with John Eggers and later Dick Jones family from Omaha.
