A reader recalls National Book Week and National Education Week urging library use to protest and share information. Dr Louis Shores of Florida State University suggests libraries could host posters and town meetings, while a postscript warns about smoking risks and urges quitters.
Mrs Duane Ayers hosted a personal shower in Jefferson on Saturday afternoon for Helen Doran who will wed Dennis Ayers on November 16. Guests included the brides and grooms mothers Mrs Mildred Doran and Mrs Fred Ayers. After games, Miss Doran opened gifts and refreshments were served.
Fred Ayers and Linda were weekend guests in the Dan Weaver home in Council Bluffs.
Miss Rebecca Ann Brown wed Thomas Martin Monson in a double ring ceremony at the home of Dr and Mrs Stanley Baldwin in Corona del Mar California. Rev Dr Robert Washer officiated during a Sunday October 27 wedding attended by family and friends.
Mr and Mrs John Peckumn hosted a November 3 dinner for their son Mark Peckumn turning ten. Guests included Mr and Mrs Dennis Nissen of Lincoln Nebraska, Mr and Mrs J M Anderson, Mr and Mrs Everett Wendt, Carol Ann and Mr and Mrs James Webber of Audubon, and Mr and Mrs Estell Peckumn.
Mr and Mrs B W Wiarda of Iowa Falls were weekend guests of Mr and Mrs D B Stubbs. The ladies are sisters.
Trinity Lutheran church announces events on Thursday November 14 at 7 30 p m and Sunday November 17 The Lutheran Hour airs at 8 30 am on KCIM Carroll Worship Service at 9 am with Sunday School and Junior Bible class after. Tuesday November 19 offers children instructions at 6 30 p m.
Ascension Lutheran Church activity schedule lists Sunday School worship service and midweek circles and classes. Mr and Mrs Dean Schoon and family dined with Mr and Mrs Lee Miller in Coon Rapids to honor the Millers forty second wedding anniversary.
The Gustoffs hosted a Sunday dinner with guests William Stahl of Norfolk Nebraska and John W Schumacher of Coon Rapids along with LaVerne Gustoff Peggy and Jan, Donald Peterson and Kim. Mr Gustoff and his sister Mrs Stahl received birthday honors during the gathering.
Sixteenth birthday of Clark Schoonover celebrated as he attended Guthrie Center Greenfield football game with his uncle Rex Schoonover. Mr and Mrs Bill Schoonover and Beth were Friday evening guests of Rex Schoonover.
Mr and Mrs Louis Ault entertained Friday evening honoring Barbara Ault on her fifteenth birthday. Guests included Dwight Ault and family, Kurtis, David, Grant and Lisa Scranton, Mrs Earl Phelps, Jodi, and Mr and Mrs Ray Schauf. Refreshments were served.
Mr and Mrs Fred Harvey were honored on his birthday as guests at a supper hosted by Mr and Mrs Larry Harvey in Perry. Attendees included Debra and Karen Harvey who celebrated the occasion with family.
Weekend guests included Sherry Ramaekers of Des Moines Jean Lamp of Manning Vicki Hatting of Dolliver Airman Richard Koph stationed at Lowry AFB Denver Henry Combest of Hattiesburg and Dennis Eddy. Airmen are stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver Colorado.
A series of daily visits and resident updates at Bayard Nursing Home includes Chester Latimer becoming a resident with family from St Petersburg, Florida. numerous birthday celebrations for Rose McClelland and others. weekly Blue Ladies visits, Bingo, and family calling on residents. Staff training sessions on diabetes and administrator nurse services are noted, with several residents’ relatives visiting from Guthrie Center Yale Fairmont Linden Panora and Des Moines area towns. Veterans Day remarks mention Henry Derry’s hospital treatment and return.
The annual fall banquet and Rally of the Lutheran Laymen League of the Carroll Zone was held Sunday night in Peace Lutheran church, Glidden. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Emil Deeth of Scranton and Mr and Mrs Dale Deeth, with Roy Fox of WHO Des Moines delivering the banquet speech.
Mrs Vera Deal of Bagley and Mrs Estel Peckumn of Bayard attended the November board meeting at the Bidwell Riverside Community Center in Des Moines. Christmas gifts were taken from the Bayard United Methodist Church to be given to needy children and young adults. The gifts will be wrapped at the December meeting.
Mr and Mrs Sidney Phelps were dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Delbert Ford in rural Coon Rapids on November 3.
The bride elect Morena wore red and white decorations. Mrs Lester Agre and honored guests received corsages. Miss Agre introduced her aunts and cousins, with readings and music by the Schwartz and Bundt/Bowman families. Guests served refreshments as gifts were opened.
Barbara Ault appeared in a piano recital at Drake University in Des Moines Tuesday night. She studies under Grace Smith of the university. Attending were her parents Mr and Mrs Louis Ault who later called at the John Keck home in Des Moines.
J W Huss stayed with Mr and Mrs Charles Huss and Jimmy at Manson. Veterans Day weekend visitors included Mr and Mrs Jerry Hall and Sue from Moline Illinois and Mr and Mrs Dale Brahm of Rock Island Illinois visiting Mrs L E Stiles.
