Kenneth Robinson appointed editor at Central Iowa Publishing Inc, replacing prior editor and outlining the newsroom leadership changes.
Mary Louise Robinson recalls coffee improvised blends and a bank pants incident in Bayard. She describes a Texas trip visiting Jack and Helen Ocheltree in Frisco and Denton, touring LBJ Library in Austin, Carswell AFB, and several presidential libraries. She notes General Dynamics F16 comments and Johnson memorabilia.
Junior Lewis and his daughter Connie Bearden left Tuesday to return to Apopka Florida after visiting Junior's twin Everett Derry and his family along with Harold Schnetter and the Lewis sisters. Earlier two of Junior's sons Jerry and Kenny traveled from Florida to visit relatives but only Jerry accompanied the group home. Kathy Siedhoff hosted a neighborhood coffee for Phyllis Nance's June 9 birthday with guests including Phyllis Battles Virginia Battles Fern Raymond Alvina Burmeister Hazel Robinson Colleen Poole and Kay Lyons.
Fred and Phyllis Nance of Bayard ran the event at Coon Rapids Country Club assisting 82 participating couples. They organized pairings and distributed prizes as part of their duties.
Barbara Clifford, who wed Edward Fitzpatrick on June 18, was feted at a luncheon on Thursday June 16 hosted by Lois Wickland and Mrs Julius Abramsohn at the former’s home. Attendees included Kathleen Ferguson of High Point North Carolina Regina Fitzpatrick Jane and Mrs Julia Moylan. Tom Ferguson Tim and Pat joined hosts Mr and Mrs Jim Hagan and Jerry as luncheon guests.
Allison and Andrea Tokheim of New York City and Lisa Langan of Falls City Nebr joined Mr and Mrs Leonard Siedhoff John and Jerry for a Father’s Day gathering. Harry Tokheim visited his parents in Fort Dodge while others from Scranton Charter Oak Grand Junction and Des Moines shared the celebration at Manson Twin Lakes. Emma Jessen of Austin called on Hilda Nissen in George Nissen home. niece Sylvia Beeman from Des Moines brought the Texan to Bayard. they were supper guests in the Nissen home.
Guests of Mrs Julia Moylan from June 11 to 19 included her daughter, Mr and Mrs Tom Ferguson, Pat and Tim of High Point, NC. Mrs Ferguson is the former Kathleen Moylan.
The passage recalls LBJ’s preference for the Texas hill country and his LBJ ranch retreat from Washington. Edith Renshaw of Bagley notes a lilac blooming amid a mostly early dry season, with a second bush revival sending a bloom on June 21, the first day of summer.
Mr and Mrs Vernard Walstrom of Royal announce the engagement of their daughter Sharon to Alfred J Wessling son of Mrs Alfred Wessling and the late Alfred H Wessling of Bayard. Al farms near Bayard and Sharon teaches at Guthrie Center High School. A July 30 wedding is planned.
Twenty one members weighed in at the Bayard United Methodist Chin Rin Monday night. An 11 percent weight gain and a 17 percent loss were recorded. Weigh-ins occur each Monday at 6 30 p m followed by the meeting and new members are welcome.
Mr and Mrs Hubert Knight left Monday for Hot Springs Arkansas after a week with their son in law Mr and Mrs Lincoln Thomas. Fathers Day gathering in Nevada honored four birthdays including Norma Thomas born June 27.
A June birthday sequence features Mr and Mrs Dee Montgomery hosting a steak supper for Jim and Lillian Jackson and Blanche and Dick, plus June 3 4 and 12 17 birthdays honored. A farewell party for Ivy Balster at the Tague home includes gifts from Bayard businesses as the Balster family plans Fort Dodge relocation.
Dr and Mrs Gene McClellan and Ben visited John McClellan in their home from Thursday to Sunday June 16 to 19 enroute from Bowie Maryland to Gene's new position at Livermore Laboratory California. Guests included Tim and Judy Hilgenberg C F Greenfield Richard Vaughan Sara and others with Andrew Rosenbeck Guthriel Center Ronald Stoffel Leon McClellan Eleanor Sheer joining through the weekend.
Mr and Mrs Earl Wolf and Elnora Lewis hosted guests including Lynn Cupp and Brian Perry, Joe Wolf and family from Creston, Gerald Wolf family, Karla and David, with Martha Wolf and Mary Jane Wolf celebrated for June birthdays. Chris Wolf of Boone arrived post dinner. Leonard and a Siedhoff couple visited Horton Kansas. Kathy Siedhoff celebrated June 12. Joseph Devlin of Red Oak joined Omaha dinner June 9.
Sunday gatherings honor fathers Jim McAlister Rusty McAlister and Jimmy Dean with birthday celebrations in Bayard and Coon Rapids. Guests include Ann Vanderheiden Mary Blackman Anna Bernell and families. Channing Stone marks sixth birthday with a party hosted by aunt Jack Stone and Jeanne Stone.
June 8 visitors to Mr and Mrs Fred Esstinger were Mr and Mrs Donald Smouse of Coon Rapids and Mr and Mrs Henry Schick. The next day they were joined by Mr and Mrs Lloyd Hattabaugh of Granite City Til.
Mr and Mrs LeRoy Fuson of Granger announce the engagement of their daughter Sheila Ann to Michael Coenen son of Mr and Mrs Melvin Coenen of Bayard. The bride to be works at Woodward State Hospital and is a Woodward Granger high school graduate. The fiancé works for Firestone and resides in Granger and is a 1973 Bayard high school graduate. No wedding date has been set.
Mildred Keith of Romulus Michigan and her sister Mary McPherson traveled from Minnesota to visit their mother Nellie Nelson in a Bayard Care Center. The trio visited Elmer Weldy in Hamlin and Myrtle Detwiler along with Edwin and Esther Anderson in Audubon before returning home.
Members of the Young family hosted Mrs Florabelle Ames of North Ridge California in Boone Sunday. She attended Guthrie Center high school's fortieth reunion and planned to stay until June 26 visiting relatives. Attendees included Bud Young Rice Lake Wisconsin and numerous Des Moines Cedar Rapids Urbandale Glidden and Linden residents.
Mr and Mrs John Steffes of Santa Ana California and Mr and Mrs Robert Sievers with Shane attend a gathering hosted by Mr and Mrs Leo Lengemann of Sandy and Danny. Mrs Steffes is Leo Lengemann's sister, formerly Dorothy Lengemann.
Rev Steve Wainwright leads worship Sunday at 10 30 am with church service in Bayard United Methodist Church. A potluck reception for Revs Steven and Sandy Wainwright follows Tuesday at 6 30 pm.
Trinity Lutheran Church six miles northwest of Bayard invites worshipers for Sunday June 26. Sunday school at 9 am and worship at 10 am led by Pastor Dean L Bottsen.
Ascension Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids led by Pastor Keith Piller holds Sunday school at 9 15 a m and worship at 10 30 a m. Pleasant Ridge Friends Community Church near Glidden led by Pastor Eugene Correll offers Sunday school at 10 a m morning worship at 11 a m evening service at 7 p m with midweek Bible study and prayer.
