South of Bayard reports visitors from Yale and Colfax. Floyd Dresback and wife visited in Coon Rapids Saturday. Mrs Carroll Greenlee and son called at Nels Rasmussen home Friday. Virgil Aarons family of Colfax and Beatrice Rector of Des Moines visited Doyle Aarons in Wichita Sunday. They planned trips to Guthrie Center to see Russell Aarons ill in the Mrs Little Nursing home. Roy Greellee and sons also mentioned in transfers.

Community Notes From Local Visits and Inductions

A long list of visits and family gatherings reflects a busy period in the area. Residents including Mrs. Virgil Aarete, Beatrice Rector, Nell Bower, and others travel between Colfax Des Moines Guthrie Center and Council Bluffs to visit relatives and friends. Inductions are announced for George Jackson and Elmer Calvert, with families gathering for meals, strawberry picking, and a Saturday picnic at Mitchell Park.

Mow and Thin Berry Patch After Harvest

After strawberry harvest, mow the patch using a lawn or farm mower, remove and burn the mowed foliage, then thin the plants. In large patches plow the center to leave new rows about 14 inches apart. in small patches hoe to 8 or 9 inches. If weather is hot and dry, wait for rain to avoid losing the patch, says T J Maney of Iowa State College.

Vacation Bible School Closes After Successful Year

The Greenbrier Vacation Bible School ended with a picnic dinner. Twenty five enrolled, average daily attendance was twenty one, seventeen attended every day. Teachers were Grace Thaler, Alice Stevens, Merle Marie Jackson, and Mr. Jackson. The program drew strong community interest and achieved much.

Church Service Honors Father’s Day and Flag Day

The Church of Christ announces next Sunday morning worship will honor both Father’s Day and Flag Day. Bible school starts at 10 with the topic The Risen Christ and His Disciples. Morning worship follows at 11 with the sermon Being Christian, 4 Man Sized Job.

The town council met in Town Hall at 8 15 P M May 4 1942 with Mayor Dozier and councilmen Schick Whersole Roset pladt and Cornish present. Minutes of last meeting were approved. Bills were read and approved for payment including 1 68 to Tower Light Iowa Electric Light and Power Co.

Town Meeting Minutes Reflect Clerk and Water Clerk Bond Approvals

A 1942 special meeting led by Mayor Dozier approved bonds for Town Clerk and Water Clerk. Actions set annual salaries for treasurer, health physician, water clerk, and town clerk with per-meeting rates. Meeting adjourned after roll call with four voting members present.
