Rose B McCalmont writes in The American Legion about both sides of the Great Seal. The front shows the bald eagle and motto E Pluribus Unum, while the reverse features a thirteen tier pyramid symbolizing permanence and God’s guidance.
Mr and Mrs Dale Myers and Nancy of Bagley hosted a Sunday dinner to celebrate January and February birthdays. Guests included Doris I Mercer of Pine Bluffs Wyo Don Myers and sons of Des Moines Bob Myers and Penny Sue of Jefferson Rex Laughery and family of Bagley Jeffrey Debbie of Bagley Orville Mercer and family and Bert Mercer of Bayard.
Mrs Andrew Wetzel hosted a Sunday dinner for her son Lyle of Guthrie Center with guests including Mr and Mrs Donald Jensen and Audubon relatives, the Kenneth Wetzel family, and Albert Wetzel's clan. Richard Brideson was honored with a birthday and guests included Max Cornish of Ames and Maurice Cornish of Bagley.
Vern Carrick and Jimmy of Scranton were Monday visitors in the Earl Carrick home.
Mr and Mrs Mason Bucklin and Jerry hosted a Sunday dinner entertaining guests including Mr and Mrs Raymond Caltrider Sheri and Doug of Casey, Mr and Mrs Jim Zook of Omaha, Mr and Mrs Ester Clark and Keith, and Mr and Mrs Ray Clark of Guthrie Center. Birthdays for Ray Clark Estel Clark and Mason Bucklin were celebrated along with wedding anniversaries of the Ray Clarks the Caltriders and the Bucklins.
Neighbors of Mr and Mrs Les ter Pangborn were hosted at a house warming Sunday evening. Cards were played and refreshments served. Present were Mr and Mrs Le on Walker, Mr and Mrs Paul McClellan, Miss Bernice Beeson, Mr and Mrs Everett Cornish, Mr and Mrs Estell Peckuma, Kelly Myers and Mr and Mrs Don Brown.
Eighth birthday honored for Connie Bow er with Mr and Mrs Darrell Bower hosting a Friday supper. Various guests attended dinners and visits across Calvert, Coon Rapids, Bagley, Scranton and Davenport. Sandra Calder will finish training in aeronautics in Kansas City, guests include Earl Booths and others.
Mir and Mrs Don Rundle announce the engagement of their daughter Patricia LaRue to Pvt Leon E Betts of Fort Belvoir Virginia son of Mr and Mrs Charles F Betts of Coon Rapids Mr and Mrs George Sellers announce the engagement of their daughter Margaret to Kenneth George Garrison with a wedding planned March 15 at the Methodist church in Unionville
Mr and Mrs Orville Lawrence of Storm Lake announce the engagement of their daughter Lora Lee Lawrence to Dennis McCool son of Mr and Mrs Ivyl McCool of Guthrie Center The wedding is planned for the later part of August Miss E Lawrence works as secretary for United Adjustment and Inspection in Storm Lake Mr McCool a Bayard High School graduate attends Buena Vista College in Storm Lake
