Soubretta showcases at the Airdome this Saturday night presented by the St. Clairs in a local program. The event features performances by the group with likely a crowd expected in the venue.
The new all steel water and steam line known as Hustler will go into commission on Sunday, Oct. 16, with a 27 hour Kansas City to Galveston run. Departures and arrivals span Kansas City, Fort Worth, Houston, and Galveston, with two daily connectors from Joplin. Returns travel similarly, enabling a same day round trip from here. The route will likely include stops at Baxter Springs Paola and Fort Scott.
The Baxter Brotherhood will hold its first meeting after vacation next Tuesday evening October 4 at the M E church. The gathering will dedicate time to discussing plans of work and future activities.
A crowded Air Dome event ended with a dramatic finish as votes swung in the News popular voting contest. Prizes included a piano, two gold watches, a $10 gold prize pair, a silver water set, a gold bracelet, silver flatware, and an oil stove. Final counts crowned Hilda McAboy, Jessie Eaton, Vic Lindsey, Perle Gregory, Fay Auwan, and Mrs. Samuel Binns among top prize recipients. Clyde Chubb left for health travel via Denver and Washington, and J W Morgan with A G Hanback will visit Port land and Walla Walla in about ten days.
A Friday night performance of Uncle Tom's Cabin drew about five hundred attendees who condemned the production as the rottenest show in the area. The audience expressed relief at Uncle Tom's death, though some felt it occurred too late.
The library received from the superintendent of public documents 10 volumes of Patent Office reports 8 volumes of Patent Office decisions 1 volume Official Register of the United States and several Steele works on chemistry botany and poetry plus a biography. Mrs R A Ollis of four weeks in chemistry and 14 weeks in botany Steele are listed among the additions. Tom Murphy of Plains visiting Mrs RD Oliver returns home Monday.

Baxter gatherings to start about November first and continue as long as interest lasts. A definite announcement will follow. Gresham described as a spirit filled preacher who will aid local Christians.
Lorenzo Dow Brewster suffered a bruised right arm when a male in a lot near play area struck him with a kick during a confrontation. Brewster, attempting to catch him, was hit as the other man was still engaged in activity.
Hazel Pigg and Edna Sullivan lead a young ladies’ contest with several top prizes while several contestants received modest or no increases in votes. Miss McAboy won the piano prize and Miss Eaton faced illness challenges. J A Dent heals from a broken arm as the town notes its daily life, local business references, and a playful fall tune performed amid a north wind.
