Proclamation orders September 24 1912 election to fund five thousand dollars for the Missouri Oklahoma and Gulf Railroad and to elect one First Ward councilman. Lists judges clerks and polling places Second Ward Third Ward plus city affairs notices and local social events.
At the Willow Creek lodge No. 67 A. H. T. A. regular meeting held last Thursday evening the officers elected include J. M. Hartley as president J. R. Watson as vice president W. W. Wyatt as secretary J. G. Weiss as financial secretary W. Heffey as marshal L. T. Hobler as guard and Joe Stradling as delegate to the Grand Lodge. The Grand Lodge meeting will be in Arkansas City on October 16, 1912 with T. W. Kitchen as delegate.
The Chetopa Fair and Carnival opens Wednesday September 25 with promises of its best ever. A strong carnival company will provide daily and nightly entertainment, plus a band and daily racing early in the event. Saturday features draft and driving horses and other stock, with ladies’ exhibits in Fancy Work Art and Culinary goods, plus agricultural and poultry displays.
Notice mentions the upcoming Chetopa Fair and Tulsa Fair this week. It notes Wyrick and children of Route 2 attending the Tulsa Fair and Miss Fannie Stallemith’s move to Nowata Oklahoma to teach in public schools this winter and spring.
The A H T A event schedule moved to Saturday October 12 to avoid conflicts with Miami fair and farmers institute. Parade starts 1 30 p m from Springs Park with prizes for horse riding events, games, and foot races, plus speeches. Wenzel named grand marshal and each lodge to appoint its own marshal.
The M O G work on the M O G road is being rushed as rain aids clearance. Buildings along the right of way north of the state life are being removed and cross sectioning by the resident engineer is nearly finished. Grading outfits are active between Quapaw and the state line with more work planned inside the city site soon. Dirt will fly as sections from Quapaw to Baxter are light and fast progress expected. the city station is described as a beauty.
Rain fell all night and into the forenoon aiding pasture and water, but the corn is beyond help. Farmers with wheat to sell are notified Baxter will not receive wheat testing under 57 pounds until further notice. Willard Bros.
Several from here are planning to attend the Big A Races and Carnival at Chetopa from September 25 to 28. Postmaster Bartlett expects the parcels post bill to take effect and foresees needing the entire post office room and possibly a ware room as well.
