John King purchases Mrs. Jacobs property in Griswold and Hawkes addition. Fort Peck land drawing participation planned by Edw and Mrs Polster during their Montana vacation. Geo Peake accepts new job in Joplin. Frisco depot at Quapaw robbed last Wednesday night. no valuables taken.
Rev. Dr. Thompson Archdeacon of Kansas will lead a weeklong Mission at St. Mark's Episcopal Church starting Sunday Oct 12 and ending Sunday night Oct 19. Daily services include a mission sermon at the night service. Details on hours will be announced. the doctor is well known in Baxter from prior parish visitations since becoming Archdeacon in March.
Public invited to attend Sunday evening services at St Mark's Church as usual. A note mentions Red Star Flour and an event at Cooper's with a reward for return.
Last Saturday drew large crowds as Antis and families toured town with around 2000 visitors. Southeast Lodge 144 led the procession with other lodges from Kansas and Oklahoma represented. The parade featured pole races won by Lincolnville, best lady rider Mrs. Chas Opperman, and top mounted Antis prize to Southeast. Tug of war prizes went to Southeast and Ingram, while Miss Carrie Ramm won the ladies race and Otis Easley topped the egg race. The event also noted weather favorable for planting and fruit harvests, with local reports of peaches from A Harvey and cabbage plans from S W Coglizer visiting from Joplin.
State enforcement officer Sunday J. C. Tucker searched a Baxter freight car near Afton finding 10 barrels of beer and 260 gallons of whisky hidden among 30 bales of hay. W. R. Street is under arrest. cargo confiscated and a blind horse spared. The car’s consignee was Bob Stewart at Tulsa. A reporting boy revealed the stash. Street formerly operated a livery in Baxter.

Last Thursday night the Willow Creek Antis held their regular meeting and elected officers: President J M Hartley, Vice Pres J R Watson, Sec Y W Wyatt, Fr Sec J G Weiss, Treas G W Hefley, Marshal L T Hobler, Guard Fred Weiss. Delegates to State Meeting at Newton Oct 15 are J F Hartley and L T Hobler. Installation Sept 25 with T W Kitchen as in haling officer. Three new members initiated and five voted in favor.
