Springfield leaseholders report several rich ore strikes in the Sunnyside district south of Baxter Springs. At 54 feet an ore assay around 30 percent heightened excitement, prompting a long trip home. Additional strikes were claimed on the Hicke Jeane, W Hartley, and Weaver lands with depths ranging from 175 to 305 feet, all described as rich and promising.

Central Lead & Zinc reports weekly output of two cars of lead from its 20 acre Central mine near Baxter Springs, planning to deepen to the 350 foot level to access ore and combat water. Sewers Plan Approval and Local Obituaries in Baxter Springs

A five hole oil strike on J. M. Mosher land seven miles west of Baxter Springs Oklahoma reports genuine oil bearing sand in all holes. Oil men with field interests deem it promising and plan to shoot one hole to gauge production. The strike is not high grade but may become a rich field if extended.

New Mill for Admiralty near Baxter Springs
A 400 ton capacity mill will be built six miles southwest of Baxter Springs by Admiralty Lead and Zinc. Construction starts this week south of the Picher district. Shafts are begun with an east shaft tram to the mill and a second shaft as the mill shaft. A compressor and boiler are installed to use steam and air methods. Ore was found at the 20 foot level.

Rich iron strikes reported in mineral belt region
Drillers on the O. P. Hill land nine miles southwest of the city encountered mandic ore said to assay 60 percent iron. At Smith land near Interstate Lease & Mining Co two strikes were reported with ore 220 feet at 35 percent and 250 feet still in ore. W. M. Bennett George Brown and W. C. Howard report 8 to 10 percent in section 25. Shaft sinking has begun and a 300 ton mill will be built.

Hickel Mine Sold Twice Near Baxter Springs
The Hickel mine located three miles south of Baxter Springs changed hands twice this week. The first sale paid $40,000 to Dr J M Postell and Mr Stringer of Oklahoma City, with a second reported at $50,000. The five acre site was seized in June for $5,000, later adding a 15 acre lease where only six holes were drilled. The 15 acres carried a 90 day option. Reported ore included large quantities of pure lead cubes and a cave discovery in a lead vein measured about 35 feet by 61 feet by four feet.
