A public notice from J. A. Dent announcing the business will continue at the same location and manner. The statement thanks patrons and urges readers not to buy groceries this week unless necessary, hinting at upcoming offerings in next week's columns.
Mrs. C. E. Dent arrived from Seattle last Saturday. Vern Thompson of Miami was here on Tuesday with a case in Justice Jones' court. Walter Apple is very ill at his East Sherman Street home with typhoid fever.
A barn on L. D. Brewster’s place near Blue Mound was struck by lightning during a Tuesday thunderstorm and burned with hay inside. This is the second barn loss on the same spot within a year, and Brewster reportedly had $800 insurance on the barn.
Work on the M O G road is slated to begin within weeks despite some landowners demanding high prices. Right of way committees press on, with condemnation in some cases. The depot will sit one block south and three west of Cooper’s store, a small but fine station. Grading near Quapaw proceeds, Neosho river bridge at Miami near completion, and Baxter Springs set to begin Monday with contractor and resident engineer ready. Baxter will gain another road rapidly.
The Methodist Church outlines Sunday morning The Glorious Church and evening Christian Perfection with all invited. Prayer meeting is Thursday evening and the pastor welcomes all. District superintendent Rev C W Bailey preached strongly last Sunday. Mrs Geo R Browne of St Louis impressed the crowd with solos. she may sing again next Sunday if she stays. Brother Geo R Lewellin of Cherokee arrives in a week. pastor to preach Thursday through Saturday before the guest’s visit.

The race for Third district commissioner features four candidates. Boyce, a Republican who lost to Pinson, runs as an independent. Alsens, defeated by Livingston in the primary, also runs as an independent. The column ends with a plug for Bax ter Mill and Elevator fertilizers.
