Boy Scouts Camp Gratitude To Baxter Springs Transcends Visit
Parsons Kansas Troop No. 3 led by Scout Master O Toole spent two weeks at Baxter Springs on the Old Soldiers Reunion grounds. The boys thanked Baxter residents for the reception and the use of facilities, praising local hosts and outlining their aims and pride in the Boy Scouts of America. They noted a Missouri State Fair trip and extended thanks to several local individuals and the community for a memorable stay.

Auto Race Costs Life of Glen Skelly at Baxter Picher Road
Glen Skelly of Picher was killed last Thursday when his Ford overturned between Baxter Springs and Picher. He was driving in a taxi with three passengers, all survive. He was alive when rescued, died en route to Joplin hospital. Reports say he raced a motorcyclist at the time. He leaves a wife and a ten week old child. Local drivers are blamed for speeding with arrests in Joplin and Baxter Springs. A Baxter Springs man struck a police motorcycle while trying to escape a cycle officer and was fined. The editorial pleads for more caution and protection for women and children.

School opens Monday with enrollment exceeding capacity in primary and intermediate grades. Sixty in high school, 16 above previous max, and 392 enrolled overall. New desks, a high school piano, playground apparatus, and other supplies planned. Commercial arithmetic geography added for upper eleventh grade. supervised music for all grades. Most teachers new to Baxter patrons. Parent Teacher Association meeting Tuesday at 3 pm in the high school assembly room with pupil program and officer elections. Freshmen, Juniors, and Seniors elect their officers. colors and mottos set for each class.
