The Baxter base ball team aims at top competition while Baxter Springs prepares a new bank with 50 by 90 foot building on Military and South streets. The bank, capital 50,000 dollars, will cite 15 upstairs offices and a bank department on the ground floor, opening by mid July. Oil drilling activity continues north of town with multiple drill sites reporting tar and strong sewage, while a Cherokee county resident, Anthony Huddleston, dies near Columbus.

Baxter Springs Set for June Fifth Big Day With Flag Raising
On June 5 Baxter Springs plans a town wide event. Registration stations at Grantham's store Reddy's drug store and the Weaver home will serve residents. A 96 foot flagpole to be raised at Library park will be centerpiece, funded by a $300 to $840 civic drive. City contracts awarded for two bridges and skating rink permit, with a Moose wrestling event and health board appointments.
