A collage of community items includes visits by Dr. David B. mae at Lechangere barn, livestock transfers, farm sales, and social events. Reports mention St Mark's Guild, Ed Jones of Columbus, Mrs. Perkins entertaining, and local school and library notices. Weather, crops, and railroad timetable changes for June 15 are noted alongside mining news and ore prices in the region.
Deaths include Roberta J P Roper three months old who died last Sunday from bronchitis following measles. Interment was at Green Lawn cemetery ten miles northwest. E C Lickiss longtime resident died at his son Frank Lickiss home in St Johns Kansas, and was brought back for interment. He leaves a wife and two sons.
Services at St Martins Church on West Street Sunday evening at eight oclock. The notice invites attendance and describes the services as very interesting. Stan Walberts of Colembut was here last week on business.
John Foley of Blue Mound traveled to the Rio Grande valley and bought 40 acres from the Standard Land Company, with an option on 40 more. He praised roasting ears and big watermelons, meeting old Baxterite Mr. Rummel and planning crop preparations with W. S. Bingham of Quapaw.
Last Saturday the big store building of A Hood and Sons at Columbus fell in during remodeling. Damage is around ten thousand dollars as supports gave way and the roof front and back collapsed. Implements, automobiles, and buggies were smashed making the structure a complete wreck requiring total rebuilding.
Fire destroyed a house owned by Bird Jordan in the Third ward early Saturday at about 4 30 am. Mrs Jordan was away at Mrs Elmer Graziers for the night. The structure and contents were lost except for a bedstead and a dresser.
The Board of County Commissioners through its chairman informs mayors and trustees that it will not approve poor bills for veterans drawing $15 or more per month.
Receivers have taken control of the Frisco railroad amid claims the line cannot meet its obligations due to hostile legislation and flood damages along the Mississippi. Action set for Tuesday this week outlines the move.
