A lively shopper note from H. Ohlen at the old reliable Star Bakery advertises a square meal including bread cakes pies and a delicious ice cream with Hygeia water milk shake lemonade and candy for a sweetheart plus cigars inviting callers to visit or call.
An old newspaper snippet promotes Hygela Water and other summer beverages at Mcpry and Paces, Hemmocks, Minnow Seine and Fishing Tackle, and McFanpen and Paice. It also advertises patterns in White Goods Embroideries Laces and Trimmings with J M Cooper and H One’s Ice Cream and summer drinks.
A cluttered advert promotes massive savings across many lines at McFadden Price and Osborn stores. It touts cheap goods from general groceries to hats, flour, castor oil, medicines, and fishing tackle. Bicycles are advertised with samples soon, aiming to draw spring and summer buyers.
A promotional contest opens April 1 at Baldwin's Low Price Cash House offering $50 in gold to the nearest grain count of a pound of Java coffee. Three judges will weigh a barrel and count grains by December 26, 1893. Prizes: $20 to nearest, four runners up at $5, four more at $2.50. each participant may guess once per dollar spent in cash goods.
The notice highlights Art Osborns canned goods and J M Cooper offering bargains on dry goods. McEurnery Sox promotes prescriptions at Melald en Price. J M Coorex displays boys pants and Kineo pants while McFavox & Puce push lead, paint, and other items. Flower pots and hanging baskets are featured as well.
Polster's opening of his dry goods store drew hundreds to Baxter Springs with music by Italian harpist Mr Lobraico. The store showcased flowers and novelties, a fountain display, and over 300 fans given to visiting ladies. Merchants praised the success and urged liberal advertising to attract outsiders.
J G Polster urges patrons to trust Fresh and Pure Drugs and the services of C L Cason, a St Louis College of Pharmacy graduate and skilled chemist, noting the large invoice and expense to secure his expertise. The message stresses accurate compounding and competent druggists.
