It's time to plant if you expect pretty flowers and choice vegetables this season. If you have not decided on what to plant we would be pleased to show you our assortment. Our stock is fresh each season and each variety is gathered from plants of established merit. Every kind of seed will be found in our assortment.
Notice warns dog owners to pay the dog tax by June 1 or the dog will be impounded and may be killed after three days. Impounded dogs incur a fifty cent fee plus license. Obtain a tag from the city clerk or the undersigned, Henry Horror, City Marshal.
A theft disrupted a fishing trip when a man entered A. T. Gaba’s Kansas residence and took a beer case from the cellar. Notes also mention Herbert McAboy visiting family in Independence, Kansas, and several ladies hosting clubs and visiting relatives in Indiana.
The city council undertakes cemetery cleanup and beautification without distinction between lot owners. Improvements will be visible to visitors on Decoration Day, presenting a marked change and equal treatment for all.

The Booster Day committee plans another large event on Saturday June 24 with printed notices detailing activities. Last Saturday the town saw heavy crowds with 1402 registrations for prizes and a 3 30 prize drawing amid packed headquarters. Baxter Springs merchants offered notably low prices, drawing large regional shoppers and boosting local business.

A group of men, recalling the song How Dry I Am, broke into a freight depot last Saturday night and stole two cases of whiskey. Authorities say there is no clue to the culprits, and the act violated existing statutes.
Last Sunday evening services at St Mark's Episcopal Church drew a large attendance. Rev Fayle of Cambridge conducted and takes charge of the Chetopa parish this week. Rector Yeakel, visiting Topeka, will preach next Sunday evening. A new cross enhances the church, adding to the sermon’s solemnity. All are invited.
Last Sunday afternoon Dolph Branderson was charged with breaking into Fred Gilmore’s pool and billiard parlor, stealing about a dollar and a quarter in coins and a Colt revolver. Marshal Horton arrested him. he was jailed, later sent to the county jail. The piece notes a troubled upbringing, a recent marriage of his father, and community efforts to guide him.
