Old Landmark Gone Burned: Springs hotel on North Military destroyed
A historic Springs hotel on North Military street burned to the ground Thursday night. The unoccupied hostelry, once known as Planters House in 1877, stood as a Southern Kansas landmark. J. H. House, staying there for owners, suffered burned feet escaping. The Hood Implement Co stored lumber inside, now insured, and owner agents from Parsons held policy. Names of past landlords include W. O. Parke, Capt. H. A. Burgess, and Capt. J. S. Price.

School Notes and May Exhibition at Local Building
Sickness kept many from class and attendance was low in the hot days. Quarterly and final exams proceed with top year averages exempt from finals. Rev A C Stewart visited and offered helpful hints to High Schoolers. Mrs Reynolds presented a design tracing American flag history. From May 20 to 25 an exhibit of school work will be open daily next to the Post Office. On May 19 at 8 p.m. the Baccalaureate sermon at the M E church by Rev Q W Brakebill will focus on The First Object in Life.
