W T Gregory warns all parties to stay out of Reunion Park except during the time of the reunion. He states he has stock in the park and does not want picnic parties campers or hunters there. He says he hopes this notice suffices and that he will not pursue prosecutions for trespass.
Sunday school at 10:00 a.m. preaching at 11:00 a.m. and evening service at 8:00 p.m. Everyone welcome. FOR SALE: 100 bushels of good wheat. Fred Weiss Route 1 phone 5221. Mrs. S. W. Swinney of Colum bus was the guest last week of Mrs. Robert Parr. Mrs. Dixon returns from Texas after three months with her daughter. Bob Mason becomes utility man at Baxter Electric Light and Water Co. Wind and dust spurred calls for sprinkling.
Dr W H Barnes of Parsons and Miss Maude Stinston of Chetopa wed secretly on December 25 1913. Friends teased about the marriage until yesterday. They plan to reside at 1420 Chess Avenue Parsons. Barnes is known as an eye specialist who visits Baxter.
The Joplin Country Club hosts the first regional flower show at itsSpring River clubhouse June 6 and 7 with silver trophies. On June 6 amateurs from Jasper Missouri and Cherokee Kansas may exhibit roses, entries due by 1 pm and awards at 4 pm by a three member jury. On June 7 Jasper and Cherokee florists and nursery men may exhibit any flowers or plants and the club awards a silver plaque on a mahogany vase chosen by a ladies committee.
Miss Johnson advertises a two to four dollar hat sale for Friday and Saturday with a wide selection across the store. The promotion emphasizes low prices and limited weekend hours.
The Cherokee County Farmers Institute will convene at 1 30 p m in Columbus to organize a Farmers Cooperative Club and plan education via the Farmers Institute and Boys and Girls Clubs. Speakers cover future of the Institute, clubs, feeding stuffs, seeds, and livestock breeding with emphasis on profitable farming and soil fertility. Baxter Mill & Elevator.
City and rural route editions feature topics of interest such as getting credit at school for farm work controlling the blotch and increasing orchard value. Also handy tips for boys and girls co operative cooking recipes and the final Broad way Jones installment.
Harry Wilbur auctioneer and Miss Myrtle Naylor married last week at Oswego. Bride daughter of J. C. and Mrs Naylor of Route 5 and described as a fine young woman. Groom a rising farmer near Baxter Springs. They reside eleven miles west of Baxter Springs on a fine farm. The News offers congratulations and a note the editor will visit the Wilbur place to see how they are getting along.
Harry Sullivan of this city married Laura Benderim of Galena last Thursday evening. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Hoopingarner. The couple have gone to Monett Missouri where Harry works for the Frisco Railroad.
The M O and G trains will stop at Galena on and after May 17. The change will aid Baxterites who must attend court in Galena.
Reports from Carthage note visits by Mr Hiatt and Miss Nova Justice. The May term of the district court meets in Columbus. A new Frisco time card takes effect May 17. Mrs M F Crume of St Joseph and Mr and Mrs Kuhn with Miss Noble visit Carthage. The colored Odd Fellows held a big day with Rev Gillespie’s annual sermon. John M Cooper returned from a month with his daughter Mia True Childs and reports health is good.
