Willard ice plant near city ready to begin making ice
The Willard ice plant west of the city, led by superintendent H. E. Steary of Springfield, is nearly finished and set to start manufacturing ice today. The Willard Coal and Ice Company touts a well built sheeted structure on concrete, with a 22 horsepower Witte gas engine driving a compressor and 3600 feet of piping. Water is drawn from a deep, pure well and heavily filtered, then stored in a salted tank for the freezing tanks where ammonia circulates. The plant can produce seven tons daily, with ample storage, and promises a steady supply for the region during the hot days ahead.

Baxter Chautauqua Week Adds Noted Entertainers
The Baxter Springs Chautauqua Association plans a six day event in Library Park starting July 29. A large tent will house a program featuring Detroit Male Quartet Royal Hungarian Orchestra M Theresa Sheehan Concert Company New York City Marine Band violinist Joseph Konecny and a Sicilian choir along with talks by Dr E J Sian Hon Granville Jones and Dr Kerr Boyce Tupper. Baxter Exchange plans new line near River and Main streets
