The court will rule after appeals are disposed of and has granted a lower court order to permit appeal. Victory Button for Discharged Soldiers
The Victory Button, approved by the Government for soldiers discharged after at least fifteen days service between April 6, 1917 and November 11, 1918, will be distributed soon. Authorized in a War Department letter to the U S Army Recruiting Officer in Joplin Missouri the lapel badge is silver for wounded and bronze for others and is issued upon showing a discharge certificate or officer discharge order.

District Court Jury Convicts Two For Forgery
District court juries found DISTRICT COURT 8. L. Jones alias E L James and John Roderick guilty of forgery in the second degree on first and third counts. The night session finished the case with a verdict at 10. The youths, under 21, were accused of passing a forged 26.90 check at a Treece grocery on January 25 1919 forged for La Salle Mining Co of Picher. The Poole murder case proceeds, with Orville Pifer charged jointly. Pifer already tried and convicted of grand larceny in a prior term. Chicago May 7 Julius H Barnes national wheat administrator told Chicago Board of Trade the food administration act authorizes prohibiting future trading on exchanges if abuse appears. He questioned volatile corn moves and announced a May 13 New York conference with millers bakers and grain traders to discuss trade agreements and potential return to 1917 regulations if flour prices fail to reflect supplies though he hopes it won t be needed.

Phipps Reports Strong Water Flow From Second Deep Well
T J Phipps informed the writer this morning that he struck a strong water flow in the second deep well for the waterworks plant. The flow appears around 1800 feet, with drilling stopped and a pump ordered from Joplin to arrive today. The pump will service both wells to measure total flow and compare use and reserve. Phipps had been contracted to drill 500 feet more but found the flow near 200 feet after starting the second contract.
