War Department ends local weary volunteers intake
Ton Thomas, chief clerk of the Therokee County Exemption Board in Columbus, received orders not to accept any wore volunteers at his office until further notice. The War Department periodically directs which Army branch needs volunteers. with Coast Artillery filled, no more volunteers will be accepted. Thomas handles about fifty address changes daily and must update records to locate men when called, some changing addresses up to seven times since examination forms were issued.
