A letter accuses county commissioners of neglect after designating Cheto pa road as county road and running an ill performing grading machine over it. The writer contends the machine harms the road, notes heavy vehicle taxes should fund road upkeep, and predicts an indignation meeting and motorists organizing to demand proper road maintenance.
Thieves broke into Sam Slaughter’s barn southwest of town and stole feed and goods before setting his house ablaze on Thursday night. Sam and wife have been away since his mother's death, leaving no one present. Insurance covers 150 on household goods and 300 on the house, but losses exceed these amounts.
An office advertises its selection of horse and jack cards and bills, claiming the finest quality in the country. It emphasizes a fine assortment of cuts and the ability to produce neat printing quickly for breeders.
Auto livery offers transport anywhere with contact Sparlin. A five dollar bill lost on Saturday street sight with reward for return to Mrs Homer Michener. A large crowd gathered at Grand Army Hall for a citizens caucus. G W Earnshaw was chosen chairman and Ben Patton secretary. Nominees include J O Treece for mayor, J M English for police judge, John W Cook for city treasurer, L L Cardin for board of education treasurer, and several ward councilmen and committeemen. The vote required three ballots for mayor, one for police judge. The convention did not authorize filling vacancies, and rumors point to more candidates entering the race.
Miss May Robertson daughter of Mr and Mrs M W Robertson of this city married February 17 in Galena Kansas to Mr Earl Guinn of that place. Ceremony performed by Judge H C Dale of Galena. The couple kept the news secret until late last week. Both are highly regarded and have many friends.
R. O. Thomas offers 56 high quality horn cattle and farm implements at public sale four miles southwest of Baxter on Monday March 22. Terms are 10 months with 6 percent interest, 6 percent discount for cash. W. T. Hartley sales man and Chas. L. Smith clerk.
Our TT evening attracted a full room and many hat buyers. The display drew strong interest with several customers purchasing items. Visit the display soon before the best choices are gone, as the assortment is limited and the timing is favorable.
St Mark's Episcopal Church invites all to a prayer service and sermon on Sunday March 21 at 7 30 p m. Everyone welcome to attend this community gathering at the church.
John R. Rose of Baxter Supply Co announces surveyors at work on his Columbus to Miami line. He says he will cut out Galena and, if Baxter Springs does not bow to his terms, cut out the town too. Rose promises aid if the road is built, but locals must be shown. W. D. Pinnick, city auctioneer.

Discussions mention oats, weather, box supper, repelling contest, and a March 26 visit from E A Baugh in Miami.
