Spring river floods Baxter Springs amid heavy rains
The Spring river rose to near record levels, about a mile wide in places, washing out approaches at Ryan bridge and a culvert east of the M. E. & T. bridge. Train service to Galena halted for days. road travel blocked five to six feet deep between bridges. Lightning struck E B Hibbard’s barn, destroying corn, hay and machinery with five horses rescued.
