An old ad notes Red Star Flour in 24 and 48 pound bags with prices and a sale item for lake fish and mackerel. It also mentions a steel stairway being installed on the Harvey building at the corner of Military and Neosho.
Trade offer for a 160 acre Ottawa county Oklahoma farm in exchange for a stock of general merchandise. Interested parties should call this office for details and arrangements.
Paul Ewert of Joplin Missouri announces leases for the Lincolnville mine with a 10 percent royalty and a 30 day trial plus free mill use. Also offers the Eleventh Hour mine near the Lancaster mine across the road southeast of Joplin for lease at 10 percent royalty.
Regular services at St. Mark's Church occur Sunday evenings at 7 30. J C Haskett visited from Oklahoma City. Mrs Chas H Rhodes arrived from Kansas City to visit her mother Mrs Samuel Binns and will stay some time. Walter Sullivan and family move to Joplin where his teams earn good wages. McAboy & Co upgrade their meat market with a concrete floor, paint and paper to modernize the business.
Advertisers urge readers to watch ads in the News and to try small ads at five cents a line or display ads at ten to twelve and a half cents per inch. They claim results justify the cost, noting farmers and merchants benefit from advertising while questioning rivals who advertise.

Mrs James Large, early Baxter Springs resident, died at her home March 6 1914 after a long illness. Funeral services were held Sunday with interment in Baxter Cemetery. She had lived in the town about forty years and leaves several children and loving memories.
Community note urges immediate maintenance of major roads south of the city from the south line to Op Permanent corner and the Rasiestraw corner to the state line. Funded by Baxter Springs residents in the past, the township should now maintain these routes to restore good condition.
A newspaper notes the availability of free advertising space for job seekers. It explains the idea arose after last week’s notice drew quick inquiries, and the paper pledges to continue helping people find employment through ad placement.
