Cooper's Grocery reports activity with Mrs. A L Jones visiting in Miami last week. Hazel Rowe visited her sister Oka Rowe here. Grace Perkins spent the weekend with relatives in Galena. Dr J H Boswell and wife were Sunday guests in Galena. McAboy & Co plan to install a concrete floor in their meat market and undertake several improvements.
J Wilson, alias T M Severn, tied to a forgery at Polster Bros, escaped from the State Reformatory at Hutchinson and is a wanted man. A $25 reward is offered by the Antis for his arrest. authorities plan to return him to Hutchinson after custody. Severn was recaptured this week and returned to the reform school.
The plant installs a new eighty five horsepower gas engine this week to boost capacity. When completed, the facility will rank as one of the best equipped in the region and aims to attract the patronage of every local resident.

Geo. Bradshaw colored, arrested for obtaining goods under false pretenses and for stealing two watches from Sam Schaeffer, was arraigned before Justice Jones and pleaded guilty, receiving seven months in the county jail. The note mentions an August reunion, assorted local updates, and various short items from Baxter to Columbus, including farm trade ads and community notices.
James Murray well known in this city was drowned at the Dardenne ford on Spring river last Thursday afternoon. He had been to Lincolnville and was crossing home east of the river when he disappeared. His team and body were found downstream as searchers combed the bank. The Spring River Power Company shut gates at Lowell lowering water enough to aid the recovery. Mrs. Murray was in Joplin at the time tending her mother who died about the same period. Murray's body was taken to Joplin for interment. he leaves a wife and xchildren.

C A Diveley visited Columbus on Saturday while T W Kitchen and family moved to Miami to open a clothing and furnishing goods house in a few days. They depart Baxter Springs with regret, as they had many friends there. A theft at Jud Watson's feed yard saw a collar and parts of a barn set stolen. the thief fled after a brief chase, leaving Jud sore and out valuable dogged items.
