Mining Prospects and Development Near Baxter Springs

A rich lead ore strike reported on the Cooper estate near Baxter Springs with a 15 foot face at 190 feet. Multiple leases are described by F R Cook, M T Mitchell, Ed Morton, E J Green, C M Harden, Charles Hampton, John Reed, and Walter Sullivan. Drilling to continue toward a mill site. additional leases cover 80 acres with faces up to 52 feet. West Plains permits show ore at 85 to 115 feet with substantial jack ore and a blowout suspected in an abandoned shaft.

Lead Zinc Find In Baxter Springs Ore Drilled

In the Omaha addition Baxter Springs second hole shows an eight foot face of lead and zinc at ninety feet. Ore assays two percent and is deemed high grade by the Joplin assay er. Lease held by W. G. Harris and associates. Injunction served, drilling paused, conflicts with landowner W. W. Wakeman resolved out of court. Buyer plans residential use but aims to profit first before marketing house lots.

Pathfinder Mining Co. Active in Joplin Area

Pathfinder Mining Company members George Jade and Adam Scott of Joplin have drilled 18 wells on a twenty acre lease near Melrose holdings. Ore was encountered at 110 feet in each hole. drilling is ongoing with a 2,500 ton capacity facility planned to be built.

Mines Near Baxter Springs See Fresh Activity and New Strikes

The Hannibals and St. Joe mines south of Baxter Baring, once owned by Spring field plc, have changed hands to a new group and are now active. The old Mission mine is reopened with a new mill being built for soon operation. On H. W. Smith’s place near Baxter Springs ore was found at 250 feet but water flow prevented recovery of drill cuttings. Ash Luke and Thurman drill on Portis land, showing lead and zinc. Charles Edwards of Joplin begins two shafts on Portis holdings. A 210 foot drift on L. B. Brewster’s place yielded a 10 percent assay. Ebenstein field has five rigs with two in ore. Jack Rabbit lease shows steel jack formation in the first shaft. Cleaned shaft at Charles Blackhawk Quapaw land reveals good jack formations. Ben Wissell’s group reports 19 percent lead and zinc southwest of Baxter Springs. Vegal land reports a 15 foot face with two percent. Dr J C Jackson reopens the Alabam Coon shaft, now ready for operation. Lincolnville road hold reports ore at 66 feet with drill at 80 feet in ore.

Baxter Springs designated headquarters for Long-Bell Lumber with new yard facilities on Main and Sheridan. Quapaw St Louis and Kerr named for yards with talks ongoing in the mining district. Stolen Auto Found After Bax ter Springs Incident

Old John Barleycorn blamed for a theft that sent a man fleeing justice and left a rural family unprotected. New Mill Project Near Hockerville Farmington Mo

A new mill is planned at Hocker ryng two miles from the city limits near Farmington Missouri. Two shaft sites have been proved with ore strikes showing 15 to 20 percent ore content, mostly jack. Strikes were reached at 168 feet.

Will Rebuild Road To Picher

Baxter Picher Good Road association reports about two thousand dollars raised for road resurfacing between Baxter and Picher. Scott Jarrett leads work with a plan to complete repairs needing about four thousand dollars, plus five hundred for ongoing maintenance. Rail line moves to Baxter Springs on July 4

The new railroad headed for Baxter Springs will run trains in ahead of schedule with first arrival at Picher on July 4. S.A. Kenoyer reached a settlement after securing a temporary injunction to halt cow construction on his land. The dispute stemmed from a $50 per acre wage claim, but parties settled to avoid delays.
