Are You Getting the Worth of Your Money suggests trading with Dent's Cash Grocery. It touts buying in car load lots, discounting bills, rebates, and selling at prices lower than competitors. The ad promises prompt delivery, best goods, courteous treatment, and very lowest prices.
E M Michener called the office the day after the paper appeared and pledged $25 toward graveling the road from the city to the cemetery. He called it a mighty good start and urged others to contribute. Citizens were urged to speak up with their donations as names would be collected quickly.
A Sunday night lightning strike set L D Brewster's barn near Blue Mound ablaze, with four hundred dollars insured. Isley and Wagoner lost a wagon, corn planter, harness, and feed as the blaze nearly consumed the structure. Ransom Pigg raised the alarm. An International Hay Press is advertised as baleing twice as much hay as horse power presses.
Announcement that the Hudson grocery stock and business have been purchased and will continue at the old stand. The new owner pledges to pay high prices for all produce and invites customers to give a trial. Contact details include a phone number.
The new time card, effective Sunday June 23, lists Eastbound trains at 2.20 am 6.35 am 9.25 am 7.17 pm and 9.40 pm. Westbound at 8.00 am and 1.45 am. North at 2.45 am. South at 2.12 am 6.40 am and 6.10 pm. The forenoon Joplin train moves to 9.25 am and the 8.50 pm Joplin run becomes 9.40 pm. Southbound morning departs 6.40 am after the Kansas City arrival. Other trains largely unchanged.
A heavy storm last Sunday night brought a record rain total of six inches. Streams overflowed across the region, Spring river flooded the bottoms, hindering eastward wagon travel for days. Last Thursday at about 1 45 pm a slab fell from the roof of a drift in the Petersburg mine Baxter camp killing Jack Burnett and injuring Jim Ice who was not seriously hurt. Dr Wear attended but Burnett died at the scene. Ice recovered quickly. Burnett was single and, it is believed, to have been married soon.
The Frisco railway company has launched a Good Roads Train showing road building machinery and miniature models. It will visit the city on Saturday July 6 with lectures and demonstrations. Road overseers and street committees are urged to attend and learn weatherproofing techniques for better roads.
Charles A Sharp aged 28 died at St John hospital in Joplin after sixteen weeks illness last Saturday. He had long served Empire District Power Company and was well liked by coworkers and friends. Funeral services were held on Tuesday.

At the Republican National Convention in Chicago the Taft faction secured the temporary chair, electing Root over McGovern 558 to 502. The outcome suggests Taft may secure the nomination while rumors persist of an opposing ticket led by Teddy.
