Pure Food Laws Enforce Baking Powder Convictions
The St Louis papers report several grocers were tried for selling baking powder containing alum in violation of the law. All were convicted and fined $100. Some powders sold under names like Sweet Milk and others are offered for ten to twenty cents a pound. Authorities urge buyers to demand reputable cream of tartar powders. Bert Heisleman, a 17 year old wanted for burglary in Indiana, was tried in Justice Jones' court, sent to the state reform school for up to ten years. Mrs. J C Haskett was ill earlier in the week. A man makes his maiden speech then asks a spinster to marry him. Mr. Ira Perkins and family and Mrs. Burgens leave for Sapulpa, I T, where Perkins will continue business.
