City approves bond issue expense payment

The city council passed an appropriation of 86120 from the lateral sewer fund to cover costs of the bond issue. Funds were paid to D. E. Dunn & Co. for legal advice and brokerage in securing money for Daxter Springs to build the lateral sewer system.

Picher Race Meeting Opens With New Track Spelling Success

The two week running race meet begins Saturday June 8 under the Picher Jockey Club, following Western Jockey Club rules. A new track, built with sand clay and cinders from mills, promises fast, solid footing and comfort for riders and horses. Picher, Oklahoma sits in a booming mining district with a growing population and nearby towns within miles.

Forty per cent ore on Weiss land near Baxter

Prospectors drill into rich ore on Martin Weiss farm two miles west of Baxter. In two holes ore reached 46 feet with good cuttings to 135 feet. For five feet ore averaged 40 percent. Holes lie on the north forty of the Weiss property, with a shaft sinking on another forty under a separate lease.

Box rents to rise at Baxter Springs postoffice

Beginning July 1st the Baxter Springs postoffice boxes will cost a trifle more. New prices list small at 60 cents a quarter, medium at 75 cents, large at $1.00 a quarter. The rise reflects post office receipts. Baxter is described as "going some." Judge C. E. Miller of Sunnyside visited Buster Tuesday en route to Crestline for business.

Sheridan street property owners petition to grade and gravel

A Sheridan street petition from property owners asked the city council to grade and gravel the street from Railroad to Military avenues with owners to roll, drag and oil. Several similar petitions have appeared but funds must follow city wide street repair policy. New Post Office Fixtures and Automatic Lock Boxes

Postmaster Chas Smith reports new post office fixtures are shipped and may arrive soon. The east side of the J O Treece building on Sheridan Street will house the larger, automatic lock boxes.
