City Council Adopts Three Ordinances May 28 1908
The May 28 1908 adjourned council session in Baxter Springs saw passage of Ordinances 109 110 and 111. They include vacating a north River street strip, banning spitting on walks and public places, and establishing grades for city streets. The city attorney was to notify River street owners to build walks within 30 days or have the city contract the work. The bonds of the marshal city clerk and street commissioner were approved. Mayor Jones sought engineer use to grade and gravel a road to the cemetery. The council granted access after brief discussion. A suit for 5000 damages was filed by L B Watson against the city clerk the marshal and the police judge for false imprisonment based on an occupation tax arrest. The hearing may occur in September.
