Severe hail and rain storm hits Columbus in weekend
The town endured a very severe hail and rain storm Sunday evening followed by one of the heaviest rainfalls on Monday. Local license agents are already selling privileges for the upcoming big reunion. Many new features are booked for the event and the strawberry crop is nearly finished though berries were good while lasted. The report notes miners and locals traveling between Baxter Springs and nearby towns. A ball game in Joplin drew Baxter crowds, ending 2 to 0 for Joplin. Funeral services were held for William H. Long at his Baxter Springs home with interment in Baxter cemetery.
