Death of Eli Botkin, Pioneer of Joplin and Baxter Springs
Eli Botkin died of heat prostration at his Joplin home. A Clark County Ohio native born 1834, he moved from Baxter Springs to Joplin in 1875 and built a legacy with a liver y barn and moved Fourth Street structures. He left a wife, a child who died in infancy, and substantial property, while his early enterprises linked Baxter Springs history to Joplin’s growth.
