The Wood's department store is undergoing enlargement this week. Groceries on the north have been moved while workmen decorate and install fixtures for shoes and men s furnishings. The expansion adds 4 200 feet of floor space and a 60 foot frontage. The new men s department will be a complete store linked to dry goods and ready to wear sections. Since arriving in Baxter Mr Wood has seen remarkable success.

Abe Dardene Fined for Carrying a Gun and Tax Evasion
Judge John Jones fined Abe Dardene 100 dollars and sentenced him to thirty days in the county jail after his gun conviction. Dardene had refused to pay a poll tax and was arrested by Henry Horton. Injunction Aims To Stop Baxter Springs Water Bonds
At a Baxter Springs council meeting R E Rosenstein warned the injunction suit may harass the city and force it to abandon water works bonds. Miriam s Brown of Elders Jaws filed to stop sale of 85 000 in bonds voted July 5 claiming the ordinance authorizing the election was void. A hearing before Judge J N Dunbar is set for July 29 with evidence to be taken. Dunn & Company of Wichita brokered the issue. It seems unlikely the sale will proceed amid litigation.
