A C Edrington of Baxter Springs filed suit in Columbus Kansas for 1000 against J M Dietrich and Lucile Dietrich claiming they owe him commission for promoting the sale of the Baxter Hotel owned by H L Schultz. The hotel valued about 40000 is attached pending settlement. Edrington says he was employed to purchase the property and that the 1000 fee was agreed. The hotel comprises the building, equipment, and adjacent lot portions.

Egg candling school educates Baxter merchants on handling eggs
About 75 Baxter Springs merchants attended an egg candling school led by L. E. Harker of Indianapolis for the U S Department of Agriculture. The session covered buying candling and handling eggs, required certificates, and rules for weekly marketing. Harker urged roosters be removed after breeding, twice daily egg gathering, cool storage away from flies, and at least twice weekly sales. He warned Kansas yearly egg waste reaches 5 million dollars.

The Mineral Belt Railway Company has completed lines into Baxter Springs. Freight and passenger service will start early next week between Baxter Springs and Picher Cardin Commerce Century St Louis Hockerville Quapaw and Miami. An arrangement with Frisco will transfer freight and passengers at Baxter Springs. The junction boosts Baxter Springs advertising and directs all Mineral Belt freight via this point. The company reports strong business since initial lines between Miami Picher and Tee River a year ago despite material and labor delays.
