The store advertises handling all grocery needs in large quantities including sugar tea coffee flour canned fruits meats vegetables and other kitchen and household staples. It claims best quality and prices lower than expected.
Mrs Geo Gill is ill at home on South Main. Mrs J E Stover of Quapaw is reported ill. Mrs C Y Boswell left for Alva Oklahoma after visiting her son Dr J H Boswell. Miss Laura Armstrong visited Webb City Sunday. Milo Chew left for a Western Kansas trip. Doc Fair, district court clerk seeking reelection, was in Baxter Tuesday polling voters.
A great many people from the country attended the Chautauqua this year and benefited as much as town residents. G. W. Taylor of Route 1 reports a bumper harvest, expected to total about five thousand bushels of wheat and thirteen thousand bushels of oats after threshing.
Weather on July Fourth brought two inches of rain, the best in two years, soaking ground and aiding corn and hay. Since then rain has continued into Monday, easing fire risk and boosting pasture growth, with farmers hopeful for a strong second hay cutting.
City candidates include Justices John Jones and J. M. English, D. and John Jennings with S. W. Etter, S., along with Constables Henry Horton, D., G. W. Peterson, R., and Frank Nicholas with M. W. Robertson. Also lists trustees and clerks for several districts with party affiliations noted.
Sheriff Ralph Martin Deputy Hardwick and City Marshal Horton seized a wagon load of liquor stored for months and destroyed about a thousand bottles of beer and more than five hundred half pints of whiskey by the river. The action risks harming fish in Spring river for days.
John Elrod sold his entire lime garden crop south of town to Lee Livingston who will ship most of it. The garden's main crops include Irish potatoes sweet potatoes beets tomatoes and onions. Elrod notes gardening was profitable this year and predicts plenty to spare. Circuit Clerk Geo Brader of Jasper County Mo. court visited Joplin last week for a fishing trip. Bread and bacon were listed as supper fare in the usual reports.
