F R Cook and Will McCulley purchased a 40 acre lease on the city edge from E A Rhodes of Nebraska. The deal includes Rhodes's interests in Valliere Mining Co. Interurban plans to bring streets to street grade
Engineer Hartzell and Baxter Springs city engineer will meet this week to arrange for the interurban company to raise the car line to the street car grade. Except for one site on South Military street, the line is within a couple of inches of the grade, with chat to fill holes and level streets.

Regional Lead and Zinc Production in Central States 1917
Southeastern Missouri accounted for over 76 percent of Central States lead output in 1917 while the Oklahoma Missouri and Kansas district produced 22 percent of lead and 77 percent of zinc. Ore mining reached about 25 million tons with concentrates valued at 77.6 million dollars, though zinc figures remained smaller in those regions.
