Mines Near Baxter Vie for Development With Rich Ore
Drill reports from the R F Hartley farm west of Baxter describe a 47 foot face at 182 feet depth with ore running about 50 percent metallic content. Continental Zinc Co holds the lease and plans a shaft once the site is proven as a mill site. Big Eight Mining Co plans to shaft on the Agnes Gilmore property near the state line, with initial ore face of 15 feet at 17.5 percent. Jess Short operates a 300 ton mill on W W Scott land, while mills move from Joplin to nearby holdings as drills appear west and south of town.
